Today, February 8, is the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita, a survivor of human trafficking and a Canossian sister. On the day that we commemorate her struggle and triumph, we remember all those caught in slavery and renew our commitment to abolish all forms of human slavery. Springfield Dominican Sister M. Cecilianne Duello died on Tues., Feb. 2. 2016. She was born in Alton, Ill., in 1940 and named Mary Ann, the eldest for four children born to Clement and Helen (Mass) Duello. She took the name M. Cecilianne when she made her profession of vows in 1960 at Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield. For 56 years Sister Cecilianne served the people of God as an elementary school teacher, director of religious education, and pastoral minister. […]
