Sister Catherine Mary Currie, OP

Sister Catherine Mary began her religious life teaching grade 3, first at St. Frances Cabrini School, Springfield, 1973-1977, then at Holy Family School Decatur, 1977-1979, before she headed north, where she taught grades 3, 5, and computer at St. Edward School, Chicago, 1979-1990. She moved on to grade 8 at St. Thomas More School, Elgin, 1990-1991, and grade 7 at Ss. Peter & Paul, Cary, 1991-1993. At St. Bernadette School, Evergreen Park, she had several roles including teaching grades 5 and 7, and computer, and serving as assistant principal, 1993-2006. When Sister Catherine Mary left classroom teaching it was to return to her beloved alma mater, Rosary High School, where she provided support services for the school administration and governing board, 2006-2021.

In 2021 she received the Alumnae Spirit Award from Rosary. She said she was “honored and blessed” to receive the award and grateful to have served at Rosary where, when she was a student, she discovered God’s path for her was to be a Dominican Sister of Springfield. “I treasure my life as a Dominican Sister. Little did I know God would give me the privilege returning to Rosary to serve,” she said.
