Sister Paulette preaches Good News.
People who know her well will tell you that Sister Mary Paulette Joerger is fast. She moves efficiently from one task to another, never wasting a moment. That was the case once she decided to answer a childhood call from God to religious life, too. Sister Paulette entered the Springfield Dominicans in 1970 and has been on the move ever since.
Sister Paulette loves God and shares that love with students in her junior high classroom at St. Malachy School in Rantoul, Ill. She has a knack for transforming life’s routines into God moments. One of her favorite things is the time she spends preparing the children for mass. “To witness students singing liturgical songs as they return from mass is uplifting to me,” she says. “That, and the enthusiasm with which they serve by stocking shelves at the Food Panty—I see the students making connections with the ‘holy’. There seems to be a strong sense among them that we are: building God’s reign on earth,” she said.
During National Catholic Sisters Week we celebrate our Sister, Paulette. Her commitment to sharing the good news of God’s love with her students is a fulfillment of our preaching mission.
