Sister Barbara Blesse, OP
I grew up in Jacksonville, Illinois and entered the Dominican Sisters of Springfield shortly after graduating from Routt High School.
I have a curious mind! My interests include interreligious dialogue, a deepening understanding of the Story of Creation and a growing appreciation of how evolution and cosmic consciousness manifest God’s presence and activity.
My goal for spiritual companioning is to provide a safe and trusted place for you to explore your relationship with the Divine and strengthen and expand your awareness of your connection to the Divine in your life.
I've been blessed with a great variety of ministerial experience. I've taught students in elementary school, high school and college. I especially enjoyed my years as a high school and college campus minister. One of my most challenging and fulfilling ministries was as director of the Biblical Studies Program at Catholic Theological Union. During those years I managed study trips which allowed me to spend time in the biblical lands of Palestine, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt. I also served two terms in elected leadership for my religious congregation.
I have a bachelor's degree in education from St. Ambrose College, a masters in religious studies from Providence College, and a masters of divinity in biblical studies with a certificate in biblical spirituality from Catholic Theological Union. My certificate in spiritual direction was completed through the Dominican Center for Religious Development.
My friends know that I have a particular fondness for elephants and enjoy reading.
