Sister Jean Michael Constantine, OP

Springfield Dominican Sister Jean Michael Constantine died on Nov. 29, 2016, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in Chicago, Ill., in 1925, to Michael and Loretta Murray Constantine and named Mary Ellen. She made her profession of vows in 1948 at Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield.

Sister Jean Michael taught for 36 years, mostly middle school and junior high students in Springfield, Carlinville, Morrisonville, Chicago, and Elgin, Ill. and at St. Augustine Parish, Richmond, Mich., where she taught primary grades and high school biology. After retiring from the classroom in 1984 she served her Dominican sisters, overseeing the maintenance crew at Sacred Heart Convent and driving sisters to appointments throughout Springfield. From 1993-2001 she returned to Chicago as pastoral minister at Our Lady of Grace Parish.

Sister Jean Michael was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Louis. She is survived by three nieces and three nephews, her sister-in-law, and many great nieces and nephews.

A welcome gathering for Sister Jean Michael begins at 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1. Prayers for the dead 9:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Convent chapel, 1237 W. Monroe St. Burial follows at Calvary Cemetery. Father Brian Alford, celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield, IL 62704.

Sister Patricia Seelbach, OP

Springfield Dominican Sister Patricia Seelbach died on Nov. 28, 2016, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in Raymond, Ill., in 1934, one of 16 children born to George and Marie F. Todt Seelbach. She made her profession of vows in 1956 at Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield.

Sister Patricia served her God and her community with love as a teacher, a baker, and a seamstress. She is survived by her brother Richard (Sharon) Seelbach, Chatham; her sisters-in-law Alice, Springfield, and Marilyn, Waggoner; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Marcella Holderread, Betty Kincaid, Georgia Hobson, Nancy Lundin; Marilyn, Margaret, and Mary in infancy; her brothers George Francis, Fabian, Joseph, John, Raymond, and Robert.

A welcome gathering for Sister Patricia will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30. Prayers for the dead 9:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Convent chapel, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield. Burial follows at Calvary Cemetery. Father Clinton Honkomp, OP, celebrant.
