Sister Mary Stanley Karnosky, OP

“When I look back over the years I’m in wonder at my vocation,” Sister M. Stanley says. “It is truly an ‘amazing grace’ that I am here. That grace has kept me going all these years. I enjoyed all my years of teaching and accompanying students.”

It’s safe to say that her students enjoyed her accompaniment as well. Most of Sister M. Stanley’s teaching career was spent in central Illinois, where she taught at the Arcola Religious Education Center (1959-1961); St. Thomas, Newton (1962-1969); grade 4 at St. Kevin, East Alton (1981-1982) and grade 5, first at Sacred Heart School, Granite City (1984-1988) and then at the consolidated Catholic School in Granite City, Holy Family, from 1988-2003.

She had two tours of duty at St. James, Sauk Village, Ill., 1969-1970 and 1982-1984; and taught for a decade at St. Mary School, East Moline, Ill. (1971-1981).

Well done, Sister M. Stanley!

Love this lady! She had all three of our sons. They all loved having her. She really enjoyed talking sports with them.

  3. She loved sports and the parents and kids love her. What a remarkable lady and teacher. She had her own way of teaching but at the end of the day gave each student a hug. We love you.

  4. I worked with Sister Stanley for ten years and she taught both of my children. Everyone loved her at the school! I have so many fond memories of her, but my favorite involves our sports field day. I can still picture her wearing her habit, complete with tennis shoes, visor, and whistle. Priceless!

    Sister Mary Stanley,
Belated congratulations on your Jubilee. I will always remember your sense of humor and your kindness to me as a beginning lay teacher at St. Marys. You were an inspiration and a friend.

May God bless and keep you.

  8. Sister May Stanley is the reason I know my multiplication facts backwards and forwards! As a teacher myself, I make reference to her often. I also remember her teaching us PE! Another memory of her was her use of the phrase, “I’ll bet you dollars to donuts”!
    Congratulations!
Lisa Dumolien, your former 4th grade student from St. Mary’s
