Sister M. Bride Quinn, OP, was born in 1932 in Newport, County Mayo, Ireland and was baptized Bridget Mary at St. Patrick Church in Newport. She joined the Dominican Sisters of Springfield in 1950 and made her first profession of vows in 1951.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Norbert College in 1969, her first ministry was teaching elementary students at Sacred Heart, San Diego, 1951-1952. She returned to Illinois and taught at Cathedral School, Springfield,1952-1956; St. Margaret Mary, Algonquin, 1956 to 1959; St. Mary, Litchfield, 1959-1960; St. Norbert, Hardin, 1960-1962; and Ss. Peter and Paul, Cary, 1962-1968.
She was called to teach at St. Christina, Chicago, 1968-1978; St. Paul, Odell, 1978-1982; Holy Cross, Mendota, 1982-1984. She served for 35 years at Our Lady of Grace, Chicago. Through 2011 she taught fifth grade and then completed her time there as a volunteer tutor. In 2019 she returned to Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield, where she offers her prayer for the life of the world.
Sister M. Bride is grateful to the people she served for their loving support for her vocation. “I have enjoyed all of the places I was called and am grateful for the people I have met,” she said, reflecting on her past.
“The time I spent at Our Lady of Grace in Chicago was so rewarding. I loved working with all the parishioners,” she continued.
“I recently found that one of my students who I taught at St. Christina is now the principal there. It was rewarding to hear of the success of one of my former students.”
