Sister Judith Anne Haase, OP

Sister Judith Ann was born and raised in Chicago and has spent much of her religious life in service to the people of that archdiocese. For 19 years she was teacher, and then principal of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights. She has had broad ministerial experience as a junior high teacher in parochial schools in Peoria and Chicago, and was principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Hammond, La. She also worked in vocation ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago and enjoyed more than a decade of formation ministry for seminarians at St. Joseph College Seminary and at Mundelein. “The faithfulness I witnessed in the seminarians helped me to be faithful to the consecrated life to which I have been called,” she said.

She taught junior high school first at St. Edward, Chicago (1962-1968), and then at St. Vincent De Paul, Peoria (1968-1973), then began her years at Marian Catholic (1973-1992). She was in vocation ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago (1995-1999) and then moved south to Hammond, La., where she was principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School (1999-2005). It was then she began her ministry within the Chicago archdiocesan seminary system, first at St. Joseph minor seminary (2005-2008) and then, after six years as prioress at Sacred Heart Convent (2008-2014) she was names associate dean of formation at Mundelein Seminary (2014-2021).

In this jubilee year her brothers Joseph (Desa), and Michael (Lisa), and her sisters Mary (Robert) Lange, and Susan (William) Bright share her joy.

  1. Congratulations on your 60th Jubilee! You taught me geometry in 1978-79. It was the first time I was challenged in math, and to my everlasting chagrin, I got a C on your first test. I don’t remember what you said to me after that, but I realized I had to apply myself, pay close attention and spend time thinking about the problems. Along the way to teaching me geometry and study skills, you taught me logic and reasoning, skills I used in becoming an engineer and later a lawyer. My first C in geometry was also my last C in geometry. And to any student complaining about the practical uses of geometry, in addition to literally teaching me how to think, I once used the Pythagorean Theorem when ordering a custom round table to calculate the size of the square base. Thank you for all of that!

Congratulations Sister Judith Ann! Discovery in Service at Speed had a huge impact on me. I taught Social Studies and was department chair at Schaumburg High School for 31 years. Part of my position was to oversee a program where our seniors did 20 hours of community service for civic engagement. Your class gave me a passion and strong foundation. Thank you! Thank you!

Congratulations Sr. Judith Anne! You were the teacher that inspired me to become a teacher. You showed me that math matters but, more importantly, that every student matters! You knew so many details about each of your students and went out of your way to celebrate birthdays and milestones. Through my 42 years as a teacher whenever I’m asked if there was a teacher that inspired me, you are the teacher that has always come to mind. You touched so many hearts in your 60 years and, I’m sure, will touch many more. Thank you for touching mine!

Congratulations St Judith Anne! You were principal at Marian my freshmen year. I always remember how you would stand near first hall and greet us students as we entered the area near the office. What stood out is that you knew us all by name. I wish you could have stayed throughout my high school years! AIAOYIFTRMALY!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️

Congratulations Sister Judith Anne (or Judy Baby as we affectionately called you when we were talking amongst ourselves). Thank you for your many years of service. You are one of the people that comes to mind immediately when I think about my years at Marian. Thank you again for all the good work that you have done for your students.

Congratulations! Dear Sr. Judith Ann, the best memory I have of of you was your ability to know each and every one of us by our name. That was an amazing skill.

Also, the daily reminders to us that we were part of the fiscal responsibility of our education instilled in me the importance of stewardship. God bless and thank you for all you did to help me succeed.
