In the midst of the holiday rush, give yourself the gift of peace and quiet.
You are invited to join the Dominican Sisters for O, Come Let Us Adore Him Advent Adoration, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, 1237 W. Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704. This special event will give your spirit time to bask before the Blessed Sacrament in the quiet majesty of our beautiful chapel, and to remember what we really celebrate at Christmastime.
The liturgical beauty of the Advent season is unparalleled in the Northern Hemisphere, which finds itself meteorologically in sync with the early Medieval Christians, who devised a series of antiphons to be sung with Mary’s Magnificat during vespers in the final days of the Advent season. Modern Christians know these antiphons as the verses of one of the seasons most beautiful hymns, O. Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
As we count down the days to the great feast of the Incarnation, the daylight wanes through the winter solstice on December 21. It is at that point of maximum darkness that the Church proclaims “O Radiant Dawn, come and shine on those who dwell in darkness!”
“We hope our friends will find warm welcome in our chapel for this evening of quiet prayer, and will want to join us afterward in Aquinas Center for a time of conviviality and joy.” Said Sister Denise Glazik the Dominican Sisters’ director of the vocation office, which is sponsoring the event.
Registration is requested by the morning of Dec. 19.
