Meeting Our Physical & Spiritual Needs: Now & in the Future

THANK YOU for the NEW Regina Coeli!

This beautiful, serviceable and welcoming space is built of three things:

  • concern for the wellbeing and safety of our eldest sisters,
  • good stewardship and planning for the future needs of the community,
  • and your generosity.

We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you.  You’ve helped us create a living space that is comfortable, welcoming and healing.  Your gifts made possible the new furniture here and in the sisters’ rooms.  You helped to create a safer and more efficient workspace for our dedicated nursing staff.

And your generosity has buoyed the spirits of our sisters who continue to pray for you every day.

Thank you,

Sister Rebecca Ann Gemma, OP

Please help us care for the physical and spiritual needs of our sisters with a donation to The St. Dominic’s Day appeal.

Early in July, we began an extensive renovation of Regina Coeli, the building where our sisters requiring the most nursing care live.

DSC00751

The renovation was recommended by consultants provided through the National Religious Retirement Office who assessed the building structure and care practices.

When complete, the renovation will:

  • allow our sisters in need of nursing care better access to our shared prayer, and visits with sisters, associates, family members, and friends;
  • increase efficiencies for our nursing coworkers;
  • create spaces for visiting, quiet reflection, and more private individualized medical care; and,
  • provide gathering spaces with better acoustics for activities and social engagement for our senior sisters.

When we planned the project costs were covered thanks to our sisters’ responsible stewardship, sound financial advice, and the gift of some generous bequests and donations. However, due to the pandemic delay there has been a significant cost increase for wood, and other construction supplies and medical equipment.

Moving Day Montage

About 30 of our sisters living in Regina Coeli have moved temporarily to Rosary Hall until construction is finished. What a daunting task for octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians! It was “all-hands-on-deck” for sisters and coworkers on moving day to make sure every sister landed in a comfortable, if much smaller space. This presents challenges for sisters in wheel chairs and for those caring for them, but it is temporary, and is already generating great appreciation for the renovation. Projected date of return to the renovated building is sometime in early spring. Scroll or click through the photos to see how we fared on moving day.
