Are the elections and national party conventions weighing heavily on your mind?
The Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Ill., along with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), invite concerned citizens to join them for a virtual time of prayer 4 – 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 16.
This event, coordinated by LCWR, is 24 hours of contemplative prayer throughout the days of the Republican National Convention, July 15-18. Two additional times of prayer will be offered during the Democratic National Convention August 19-22, and the days leading up to the General Election, November 4-6.
These days of prayer are open to all, bridging the divide between culture, religion, and politics through the witness and commitment women religious make to the power of collective contemplation.
Springfield Dominican Sister Mary Paul McCaughey, prioress general, says this prayer for the common good is one way to heal divisions and encourage respectful dialogue.
“There’s power in our prayer together. Our goal in joining this effort is to support a space of peace and openness as the national election process unfolds," she said. "Those who can join this hour are most welcome as we pray to God for one another and our nation.”
The LCWR national office sent an email to their members saying “We will pray for the discernment of delegates, voters, and elected officials; peace and non-violence in the nomination and election process; and the transformation necessary for each of us in this time of polarization and division.”
