Springfield Dominican Sister M. Aniceta Skube died on July 19, 2016, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in Springfield in 1929 and named Catherine Lucille by her parents John and Anna Buedel Skube. She was one of twelve children. She made her profession of vows in 1951 at Sacred Heart Convent, Springfield.

Sister M. Aniceta gave the first 29 years of her life as a primary school educator and principal in Chicago, Springfield, Jacksonville, Paris, and Newton, Ill., and Duluth Minn. In 1984 she became a pastoral associate at St. Peter and Paul Parish, Naperville, Ill., and served there until her retirement in 2007. She loved the people of the parish and loved to organize activities and outings for the seniors club.

She completed a master’s in elementary education at the University of Illinois and kept up-dated through numerous educational certificate programs including religious education and theology.

Sister M. Aniceta was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John, William, Thomas and Edward Skube, and her sisters Franciscan Sister M. Anna, Marcella Layton, Anna Marie Skube, Mary Virgina “Jenny” Murphy, Dolores Phillips, and Dorothy Henton.

She is survived by her brother, Brother Francis Skube, OSF, Chatham, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 3:30-6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 21, Sacred Heart Convent, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield, prayer service at 3:45. Funeral Mass in the convent chapel, 6:30 p.m., Rev. Peter Witchousky, OP, celebrant.

Final Commendation and Burial: 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 22, Sacred Heart Convent to Calvary Cemetery.
