Sister Marie Michelle honored for service at St. Edward School

For giving so much of herself to St. Edward school and for “keeping the Springfield Dominican tradition of educating our children for service and mission,” Sister Marie Michelle Hackett was honored with the “Heart of St. Edward” award by the Chicago parish at their annual Big Red Gala on April 5.

Sisters Mila Díaz Solano, left, with Marie Michelle Hackett at the ceremony.

In a letter to Sister Marie Michelle, St. Edward pastor, Fr. Dominic Clemente and school principal Sara Lasica thanked her for her service and said they hoped her years of service would inspire others to support the school.

“We really can’t thank you enough,” the letter said. The award “is only a small act of appreciation compared to your decades of dedicated service.

Sister Marie Michelle reflected on her time spent at the school.

"I loved my many years at St. Edward and it was an honor to be recognized and reconnected with teachers, students, and parents," she said.

Sister Marie Michelle ministered at the school for 27 years, 1991-2018, serving as principal starting in 1996. Her sister Joan Hackett-Metzger and her Dominican Sisters Maira Barry and Mila Diaz Solano were present for the award ceremony. Congratulations Sister Marie Michelle!
