Springfield Dominican Sister M. Veronica Doolin died January 22, 2024, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in 1926, in Jacksonville, Ill., to Woodson-area farmers, John and Mabel (Nee: Cosgriff) Doolin who gave her the name Teresa Jean. She was baptized at St. Bartholomew Church, Murrayville, Ill., and in 1951 made her profession of vows at Sacred Heart Convent.

Nearly the entirety of Sister M. Veronica’s ministerial life was spent in healthcare administration. She was a registered nurse and held a bachelor’s degree in administration. Her first assignment was to St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, Miss, where 1951-1958 she supervised the maternity ward. She then transferred to St. Mary’s-Rogers Memorial Hospital, Rogers, Ark., where she remained until returning to Springfield in 2006. At St. Mary’s she was surgical supervisor, assistant administrator, and eventually filled various roles in the business office. Now called Mercy Health Center, the facility was sponsored by the Springfield Dominicans 1951-1995.

Sister M. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Thomas, and her sisters, Mildred Doolin McFarland and Ruth Doolin McDannald. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Edwards, Buchanan, Tenn., many beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Cremation rights have been accorded.
