Brown Bag Series videos now available for personal, group use

Those who missed the Springfield Dominican Sisters’ recent Brown Bag Lunch series or who want to revisit the conversations are in luck. Now you can access the videos of the 3-session series for your own study or to share in a group of your family, friends, or parish.

“We believe strongly in the wisdom contained in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and are single-minded in our desire to share it with everyone,” said Sister Marcelline Koch, the director of the sisters’ justice office. “CST can transform our world when we apply it.”

The sisters competed the noontime series on March 10. Now the videos are available below, or on the congregation’s YouTube channel, along with a simple study guide, which can be downloaded here.

The series, on human dignity, Earth justice, and the ethical development and use of Artificial Intelligence was held between Feb. 28-March 10 at Sacred Heart Convent.

Honoring Human Dignity. February 24. Presented by Sisters Rose Miriam Schulte and Elyse Marie Ramirez. The event explores how to honor human dignity when engaging in meaningful conversation.

Acting justly toward Earth. March 5. Presented by Sister Sharon Zayac. How are humans in relationship with Earth, and what are the implications and responsibilities of that relationship? Once approached as a scientific question, the Earth-human relationship is acknowledged as an urgent spiritual question in all major faith traditions.

Approaching AI ethically. March 10. Presented by Sister Beth Murphy and Ray Schroeder, Associate Vice Chancellor for Online Learning at the University of Illinois Springfield. The program explores ethical considerations in the development and use of AI. Topics include AI and ethics including privacy, healthcare implications, and human dignity.
