In-house pilgrimage offers prayers for our world

How long, O LORD?  I cry for help
but you do not listen!
I cry out to you, "Violence!"
but you do not intervene.
Why do you let me see ruin;
why must I look at misery?

Habakkuk 1: 1-3

After hearing this scriputre on Sunday, the sisters at Sacred Heart Convent found themselves asking "What is ours to do?"

Their response was to hold a rosary pilgrimage on October 7 in celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Sister Martha Marie Kirbach, who helped coordinate the event, explained it was only natural for the sisters to gather in prayer within their community. “This pilgrimage took the sisters to the holy places where they reside in community," she explained. The sisters walked between their residences at St. Catherine Hall, Regina Coeli, and Rosary Hall, with a final stop at Rosary Chapel.

Some sisters walked the journey while others rolled along. At each stop along the way the sisters prayed a decade of the rosary reflection on the sorrowful mysteries, each introduced with a a reflection on current concerns.

Sister Judith Hilbing wrote the reflections, including thoughts on Gaza's and Ukraine's parents, the crisis affecting immigrants in the United States, leaders who ignore social equity and justice, workers in fields and factories, and a pray for understanding and peace for our nation.

The sisters ended their pilgrimage by singing “Hail, Holy Queen.”
