Pilgrims of Hope: Honoring Pope Francis

  • Family-friendly public prayer
  • 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, Sacred Heart Convent Chapel
  • All are welcome.

The Dominican Sisters will welcome guests to join them in honoring and celebrating the life of Pope Francis, who died April 21 at the age of 88 after serving as the successor of St. Peter for twelve years.

Family-friendly and open to guests of all faiths, this 30-minute service will be a joyful remembrance of the gift of Pope Francis to the Church and the world.

“In the midst of our sadness at his passing, our hearts are also filled with joy for the gift Pope Francis has been to the world,” said Sister Joanne Delehanty, vicaress general for the Dominicans, who is scheduled to preach at the service. “Our prayer will be one of mourning and thanksgiving as we continue on the ‘pilgrimage of hope’ that Pope Francis himself set in motion, throughout his papacy and especially during this period of jubilee in the global church.”

Every twenty-five years the Roman Catholic Church celebrates a jubilee, and this year Pope Francis chose the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”

The service will honor and celebrate the life of Pope Francis, and include prayer for the Holy Spirit’s influence on the upcoming conclave to choose his successor.

“In the midst of our sadness at his passing, our hearts are also filled with joy for the gift Pope Francis has been to the world."

The event is free and open to all, no registration is necessary.
