Dominican Veritas Ministries team visits Rome

Earlier this month Sisters M. Paul McCaughey and Sister Kathleen Anne Tait travelled to Rome for a meeting at the Vatican regarding Dominican Veritas Ministries, the entity charged with ensuring that Dominican and Catholic values are passed on through the schools under the sponsorship of DVM. Members of the DVM board met with the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life for the purpose of answering their questions about DVM and receiving affirmation for their work. They reported that the dicastery was “greatly impressed” by the accomplishments of the DVM team and the collaboration through which it was achieved.

Sister M. Paul, prioress general of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, was happy with the outcome, and says it bodes well for the future of Dominican education.

“Dominican Veritas Ministry holds so much promise for the Dominican charism to remain vibrant in our schools.  It was a joyful meeting with the Dicastery and a delight to see the work of DVM validated officially,” she said. Sister M. Pau serves on the DVM member board.

Sister Kathleen Anne, who serves on the organizations board of trustees, echoed the positive outlook for the future of the Dominican Veritas Ministries.

“It was rewarding to see this dream, long imagined and worked for so diligently by so many, come to fruition. Though our own schools are not part of DVM as of now, I believe strongly in the vision and mission of Dominican Veritas Ministries and look forward to seeing its growth and positive impact on Dominican education well into the future,” she said.

DVM currently sponsors 13 schools in nine states, educating students from pre-K through 12th grade.

In 2016, nine US Dominican Congregations of women religious (Adrian, Amityville, Caldwell, Houston, Mission San Jose, Peace, Sinsinawa, Springfield, Sparkill) began the process of establishing Dominican Veritas Ministries, a new Pontifical Public Juridical Person, to serve as the canonical sponsor for their educational ministries. The Vatican gave approval December 8, 2022 and the DVM was established September 1, 2023.
