The Peter F. Rossiter Chapter of the Sons and Daughters of Erin has named Sr. Peggy Conway, O.P as the 2013 Irishwoman of the Year.   Sr. Peggy was honored at a celebration on March 8th, 2013 at the Inn at 835 in Springfield, Illinois.

Sr. Peggy graduated from Illinois State University, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s degree in education.  She received her Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Aquinas Institute of Theology. She also spent a summer at Notre Dame University studying Theology.

She has shaped the lives of thousands of young people throughout her career as a Catholic educator.  Her days are spent teaching Theology to the students of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. As an Irish woman, she has a stubborn refusal to bow in defeat.  She works tirelessly to instill this same characteristic in her students so they may learn that anything is possible with hard work, determination, faith in God, and of course, a little luck of the Irish.

Sr. Peggy shares this honor with her great Uncle, Judge William D. Conway and Uncle Tom Conway.  Her aunt, Donna Conway Hickerson, is a prior Grand Marshall of Springfield’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.   Her mother Sallie Conway Dixon, sisters Mary Pat Dalbey, and Nancy Davlin, brothers Frank and Kevin Conway, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew were in attendance to see Sr. Peggy receive this award.

This award is annually bestowed upon a deserving member of the community who has demonstrated a selfless dedication to the advancement of the Irish heritage or their community.  Nominees are reviewed on their merits, accomplishments in preserving the Irish culture and traditions, as well as their efforts in benevolent endeavors.  The quality of their character and their dedication shown in their contribution to the local community are chief factors in their selection.
