Feliz Fiesta Patrias

Peruvian FlagFeliz Fiesta Patrias!
Today our Peruvian Sisters celebrate Fiesta Patrias.  July 28 is a national holiday in Peru, marking Peruvian independence from the Spanish empire. The country’s independence was declared in Lima July 28, 1821 by José de San Martin, known as Peru’s liberator. At dawn, a 21-cannon salute begins the flag-raising ceremonies. The Peruvian flag will be proudly displayed on homes, businesses, institutions in  public places today. This is also the day of the presidential address and the Te Deum Mass in the Cathedral, called by the Archbishop of Lima. Enjoy the celebration, Hermanas!
