Sister Marcelline Koch DSI North American Co-Promoter of Justice and Peace
Sister Marcelline Koch, OP, was recently appointed DSI North American Co-Promoter of Justice and Peace by Sister Marie Therese Clement, DSI International Coordinator. Sister Marcelline was elected to this position in March by the Prioresses of the North American Congregations and was recommended to Sister Marie Therese and the DSI Coordinating Council. This term is for three years, renewable once, and is effective immediately.
Sister Marcelline directs the Office of Justice for the Dominican Sisters of Springfield. In this capacity, she serves as the Justice Promoter, Co-coordinator of the Springfield Dominican Anti-Racism Team, and liaison for the congregation’s Socially Responsible Investing effort. Previous to this ministry she was on her congregation’s Leadership Team for eight years. From 1996-2001, she directed Project IRENE, an education and advocacy initiative focused on women and children. Sr. Marcelline was an elementary school educator and administrator for over 30 years, serving both in urban and rural areas. She also currently volunteers on the Leadership Committee for the Springfield Coalition on Dismantling Racism.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue connecting with the Dominican family around justice work,” Sister Marcelline said. “Having been a justice promoter for many years, I know of the dedicated sisters, friars, and lay partners in this effort. It is important to me to do what I can to facilitate our work and animate all of us in our ongoing endeavor to create a just society.”
In her letter to Marcelline, Sister Marie Therese wrote, “I welcome you to ‘DSI’s Service Team’ whose primary task it is to foster and maintain our family relationships for the purpose of our collaborative response to the mission of preaching the Gospel. Thank you for trusting your sisters in the USA who, no doubt, believe in your capacity to lead and represent us in matters of Justice and Peace.”
Prioress General Sister Rose Marie stated, “I am very grateful to Marcelline for her willingness to serve our Dominican family in this capacity.”
Congratulations, Sister Marcelline!
