Sister Mary Elise Bocke, OP
Sister Mary Elise Bocke, OP, born and raised in Quincy, IL, is celebrating 75 years as a Dominican Sister of Springfield Illinois. She was baptized at St. John the Baptist Church. Sister Mary Elise entered the Springfield community on October 25, 1937 and made her first profession of vows on April 29, 1938. Sister holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere, WI, and a master’s degree in education from University of IL, Champaign-Urbana, IL. Sister is also certified as a reading specialist. She was the curriculum consultant for the Chicago Archdiocese for ten years. Many children in the Chicago Archdiocese have been helped by her expertise in the education field.
Sister Elise began her education ministry in the Springfield Diocese, and taught at St Agnes, Little Flower and Christ the King, Springfield. Other locations in Illinois where Sister served include SS Peter and Paul in Cary; St. Edward and St. John Bosco in Chicago; Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights; and Rosary High School in Aurora, IL.
Sister Mary Elise will celebrate her Jubilee with the Springfield Dominican Community at Sacred Heart Convent in June 2014.
