Springfield Dominican Sisters called people to do their civic duty and vote in the Illinois primary election on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. That is, they literally called.
The sisters met with Meg Evans and Molly Parker from Faith Collation for the Common Good to learn how to reach people by phone, remind them to vote, and direct them to the correct polling place. Then they got on the phone with calls to nearly 600 people, and wrote post cards to remind their neighbors to vote. The post card campaign reached many people in the three Springfield precincts with low voter turnout in the last election.
Eight sisters participated in the voter engagement effort: Sisters Ancilla Caulfield, Arlene Chole, Mary Clare Fichtner, Marianne Nolan, Marilyn Jean Runkel, Marion Sitkiewitz, and Catherine Anne Yager.
